This year is our 50th year. One of our long time members penned this fantastic poem to commemorate the occasion.
Golden Years
It’s 50 years since the museum began
Things have mostly gone to plan
Secretary job was going begging
When I had given up my teaching
Joined a very happy team
Many changes I have seen
Early minutes written by hand
Newsletters delivered by a willing band
Now we have a lot of assests
Even stuff on video cassettes
Buildings, boars, machines, and tools
China , clothing, bits from schools
Records of our Waiuku history
Providing answers to many a mystery
Special events I recall over the years
Gala opening of extension with stairs
Pollok Cottage saved from destruction
Lock-up shifted to present location
Maioro School – its renovation
Front of house – its rearrangement
Afternoon tea with lots of talk
When we launched the heritage walk
Fashion parade with old-time clothing
Hand machine to do the sewing
Thanks are due to many folk
Their names would fill a whole big book
May life continue cheerfully
To reach its diamond jubilee
