In association with the Waiuku Business Association (WBA), Waiuku Museum is doing a series of brief histories about local businesses that were once in our community. The first was published in the Waiuku Wrap on the WBA website. Go and check it out and see what is happening in Waiuku.

So here is the brief history of the Beehive Store.
The Beehive store run by Stephen Perrin opened in the Flexman Building, on the corner of Bowen St and Queen St, in September 1905. The Beehive store closed and Stephen Perrin declared bankrupt in 1910. At this stage the Beehive Store was run by Stephen Perrin and his business partner Mr. Baker.
About a year after the store opened Stephen Perrin was in a bus accident on 10th October 1906. The horse drawn bus fell over an embankment and between Waipipi and Waiuku. He was badly bruised and considered that he should be confined to bed for some time.
Just before his bankruptcy trial at the Supreme Court in Auckland he fell of a train carriage platform.
This photo is of the Beehive Store in 1908. The owner Stephen Perrin is holding the young child.
